Core is the closest physical representation of the borehole and the formation, providing information on petrophysical properties, rock behaviour and stresses, hydrocarbon content and other downhole fluid saturation. Its acquisition and analysis, interpretation and applications, require a comprehensive knowledge and the application of skills from other disciplines. As new E&P technologies are applied to optimising production, operators are going back to cores, making Coring Operation and Special Core Analysis again relevant in the industry. New opportunities are open for candidates skilled in this area.
